Amit's diary - day 11

Day 11 another day started early and finished early. Morning was peaceful and seemed to fit in a routine, with bub awake till 11 am and sleeping until 1 pm with no disturbance. I couldn't fall asleep during that time today.  "SLEEP WHEN THE BABY SLEEPS" is the mantra I am trying my best to follow. I had a 20 minute power nap at 2 pm to keep me going for the night shift. I was woken up by the lol one's cry n weird dream. I felt like i 'd slept for more than   an hour. 3pm-midwife Visit. Was very useful and I got many insights into parenthood and several other things. My midwife is so nature inclined that he would always advocate age old school nature based theories ,remedies and disregard materialistic and artificial substitutes. He encouraged me to breast feed my baby going with the baby's cues and needs and not make the baby follow our routine.Good advice and I shall adopt it. He weighed the baby and his weight graph is inclined. It seems by week2, most kids would gain back their birth weight. My kid is yet to but we will get there soon. 4 pm- fruit time; I loved one serve of pomegranate,my favourite fruit. 4-5 pm: mom helping me to put baby to sleep and mom was so tired that she fell asleep deeply for 5 minutes. 5-6pm: chat time with bub and my Mom 6-7pm: Dinner prep time 7-8pm: dinner for bub.  8-9pm: trying to sleep and finally fell asleep at 8.30. 9-10.30- I didn't get up at all, was bit surprised that I wasn't woken up 10.45:fed little to little one and I fell asleep while feeding him. Asked my mother to put him to sleep on bed. 11-2pm:my sleep resumed. I was woken up only at 2 pm by hubby. I can consider that Day ended here as I feel now more energetic and geared up for the next day sorry TODAY -it's 2.30 am now.

A Looooooooooooong Break well spent

I had FOUR weeks of break during the summer.I am reminded of my school holidays’ summer break where the only to do things were to catch up with friends and play all day whatever the weather condition was. A truly care free break all summer until the holidays break for school. Summer breaks enjoyed during Childhood and Adolescents are carefree and enjoyable in every sense. But break during adulthood ( break from 9-to-5 job) is entirely different one. I was all set ready to spend the summer break happily.

What I did NOT want to do (spending time)

1.Spend time just on browsing net (read Facebook, Twiter, and Orkut. I do not consider these sites as waste of time; they are as much useful in connecting to distant friends as much making one hooked onto the net. I just wanted not to get addicted to check my FB every hour. So I allocated only an hour of each day. Also recently I read that FB profile info has been stolen and swiped for dating website. Oh no, not sure if my profile was included but am sure dating site is not much of use for me now. Only if it was done a year ago ;)

And

2. Watching endless movies during the day; I do like to catch up with some of the Indian movies( not the bollywood alone ( yup..There are much more entertaining Telugu (Tolly wood),Tamil (Kolly Wood) and other ‘Regional wood’ Indian movies that non Indians are unaware of). I get DVDs for couple of dollars from the Indian shops here and occasionally I get value for my money. I do watch 2-3 movies a week when working full time. So I decided to stick to that. Not a movie more and neither less

What I decided TO DO :

1. To spend the morning time at council Library, located 2 minutes walk from my house. I always love reading books and writing short stories and poems .considered Library as the heaven for readers and writers. Yes, someone has rightly said “A library of wisdom, then, is more precious than all wealth, and all things that are desirable cannot be compared to it”.
And another famous quote “Perhaps no place in any community is as totally democratic as the town library. The only entrance requirement is interest. “
At the moment, for me it was indeed the heaven as I get to read latest famous books not having to pay the high price. Library also helped me revive my writing skills. The last time I wrote a lot, really lot was for my Thesis during university days. The only difference was that at that time I had to think, analyze a lot, re-write, re-think out of the box and revises the drafts, review but now I wrote anything and everything that I love without critical thinking.
2. To spend the evening attending Zumba classes and short evening walks (as it is too hot till 8pm in the evening here).

Dancing became my hobby and passion and 2 years ago when I joined a dance class just to engage myself in the evenings. It was summer, at that time I was working full time in a company where work life balance was perfect; I’d be home by 5pm sharply and had to spend time alone till 10 pm (that’s my usual go-to-bed time). For a week I took a stroll in a nearby big park but it was too hot. Summer in Australia is horrible. To get away from the boredom and from the sun, I enrolled myself in a nearby dance studio. Even though the cost was dearer, the dance masters marketing techniques and the air conditioned convinced me. I was hoping to get value for my MONEY and TIME. What I got was much more – I discovered my passion for dancing. When I dance, I forget the world and how true it is – Dance like as no one is watching you. I felt at that time – I’m LOVING IT; the same expression I see, use after munching at McDonald (which is again a stone’s throw away from my house).

Back to the current summer break, yes I wanted to learn different types of dances- that would keep my busy and fit. So chose Zumba.

A definite break from the work routine which is made up of meetings, meetings and more Meetings onto relaxed reading, writing, walking, singing, dancing and checking mails and FB (occasionally).

Sounds a PLAN!
The project manager inside me sprang up for a moment and as it was a plan, the objectives were set against each activity such as Read n number of books and write one page blog per day etc but avoided setting any deadlines. I wanted to enjoy the activities at my own pace.

Hang on! There was one thing I had not included in my activity list that most house bound people would do. That was COOKING, considered to be a female-attribute by many (wonder why then there are more male chefs than female chefs in hotels worldwide!). Well this was never my forte. Cooking at home was my survival mechanism when I get tired of eating outside. And learning to cook has never been on my to-do list during holidays. But all changed suddenly… yes out of necessity and chance encounters of numerous great cooking books at Library, I included cooking to be part of my everyday activity.
Added to the Project Plan. An Additional activity without any Activity or PERT chart. Perfect!

So Day 1 Update:

I have started to enjoy cooking and I always love writing and so here is what the result is: WRITING a COOKING blog was what I ended up doing during my Summer Break.

I thought Cooking would be the best time pass so that I don’t keep looking at my watch (the seconds hand) and feel time is too slow. I know it’s the perception of time and hear some of you saying that Time is so fast and busy people are racing against it.

Transformation : Cooking Fascination

Mujhe dischasp thi sangeeth - Ghana aur bhajana
Ab mil gayi ek naya dilchesp - Khana aur pakana

Well, cooking has become my passion and is my therapeutic, and is the best skill I have learned to master.
